Denver is an excellent base from which to explore the beautiful Colorado countryside. Easy day-trips from Denver include Georgetown, a historic mining town situated on the western side of the city. The town of Golden, famous for its Wild West background makes for another excellent excursion. Located just 23km to the west of Denver, Golden is home to a wonderful range of authentic Victorian style shops and buildings. To really get into the Wild West way of life,, it’s worth taking a drive along the Lariat Trail from US Highway 6. Here you’ll find Buffalo Bill’s Museum and Grave and an impressive collection of original posters illustrating his life on the frontier in the days of the Pony Express.
The locals of Denver love a good party. Fortunately they have an events calendar that allows them to do just that. While in town you may be fortunate enough to get in on the action at July’s Greeley Stampede, January’s National Western Stock Show, October’s Great American Beer Show and July’s Colorado Dragon Boat Festival.
