Spain Driving Tips
As with most countries, you’ll encounter roads of varying quality in Spain. Generally speaking, Spain’s major connecting roads are of a high standard and have benefited greatly from EU funding. Speed limits depend on road types.
Road Safety in Spain:
- In Spain it is customary to drive on the right hand side and to overtake on the left
- The use of mobile phones (other than hands-free) while driving is banned in Spain.
- It is compulsory for all passengers to wear seatbelts
- Children under the age of 12 are not permitted to sit in the front seats unless they are 150cm (4ft 9 ins) in height.
- When using screen based navigation systems, (GPS etc), you must pull-in to the side of the road.
- Do not drink and drive. Current penalties include losing your license on the spot.
Check that the following has been included in your vehicle:
Under EU legislation, your car should be equipped with the following
- Two EU approved red warning triangles
- Approved reflective jackets. In the case of a breakdown, all outside of the car must wear these at any time, day or night.
- A set of spare lamps/bulbs for your car should also be supplied as well as the tools needed to change them.
