Renting a car in the Costa del Sol opens up myriad touring possibilities.  The historic town of Granada makes for the ideal day trip.  Built by the Nasrid rulers in the 14th century, Alhambra is the most renowned example of Moorish architecture in all of Spain.  The sprawling complex has a particularly scenic location – it is set against the spectacular backdrop of the Sierra Nevada mountains.  Visitors are free to wander the fountains and gardens of the summer palace as well as the Palacios Nazaries which is famous for its detailed ornamentation and hilltop palace.  Granada’s cathedral is reputed to be the spot where Isabel and King Ferdinand of Spain were buried.  There is also a Moorish Medina area called the Albaicin, which consists of a maze of winding streets and traditional houses.  Heading North of Granada, visitors will come to Sacromente Hill which is famous for its cave dwellings which once were home to a large community of gypsies,  Those who want to learn more about the areas local heritage and history can visit the fascinating Ethnographic Museum.
