Argus Releases Facebook Booking Engine

Dublin, Ireland, July 13th 2010, Leading European car rental site ArgusCarHire.com has launched a Facebook application which allows customers to search and book car hire directly through Argus Car Hire’s Facebook fan page.

Powered by Argus’s three-click booking engine technology, the application means customers and fans of ArgusCarHire.com can check current rates and book their car hire without having to leave Facebook and search Argus Car Hire’s website separately. Customers can also keep up to date with special offers and search reviews of car rental agents at their pick-up/drop-off locations.

Argus’s Facebook booking application was developed completely in-house by the company’s technical team in Dublin. The same team are also responsible for tweeting news and special offers from ArgusCarHire.com on Twitter.

Commenting on the new booking application, Barry Malone, Online Manager ArgusCarHire.com said: “We recently launched our Facebook fan page and wanted to support our social media presence with an application that would set us apart and drive bookings. This Facebook app is not only a more convenient way for customers to search and book car hire, it is also a great way for us to extend our reach to new and existing customers. With social media developing as quickly as it is, the car hire industry needs to keep up to date with changes in technology to access customers beyond their own websites.”

Car Rental Company Launches New Green Website

Car Rental Company Avis UK has set up an environmental information website after research found that 64% of Europeans want to protect the environment. This figure has increased 9% since 2007.

The research also showed that 80% thought that businesses should be penalized if they are bad for the environment. Avis’s new micro-site will share information on what Avis has been doing over the past ten years to reduce emissions, recycle, prevent spills and cut waste. Avis believe that their new site marks the next step in its commitment to become more environmentally responsible. Avis was the first car rental company to achieve Carbon Neutral status back in 1997.

Avis UK’s head of marketing, Nick Mountfield, said the new website will offer suggestions on how customers can make their own lives a little greener. He also explained that the site was designed to build on the company’s long-term environmental commitments by educating their customers on the work they were doing.

In another study 45% of Europeans said they would like to minimize the impact that their travel has on climate change. Drivers can learn how to become more environmentally friendly by signing up for CarbonNeutral projects.
