Important things to note

Driving in the city is reasonably easy for those with experience driving in large cities, though the hours between 7-9am and 3.30-7pm should be avoided due to the daily rush hour traffic in and out of the city.
Parking can be difficult to find and many locals are given to parking illegally. Do not be tempted to do this as traffic patrol is common throughout the day and towing occurs regularly.
Many parking meters are free during certain hours in the evening, so if a spot can be found on a night-time, it is highly recommended to drive at night whenever the driver is not drinking alcohol.

Highlights & Hotspots

Beside the daily performances across the city, the South by Southwest Music Festival (SXSW) is one of the largest music festivals in the county. Over 1,600 acts perform across the city over four days, making it one of the most popular events during which to visit the area.
Despite the thriving cosmopolitan atmosphere of the city, the locals are sure to keep hold of natural beauty along with the man made. Zilker Park is a great example of some of the outdoor areas open to the public, with fantastic views and opportunities for hiking and biking.
Austin is one of the prime cities in the States to enjoy independent shopping, so if you’re looking for an original bargain, this city is the place to go. There are shops of all types across the city, while the likes of Barton Creek Mall and Round Rock Premium Outlets are great for those who enjoy premium shopping.
The food of Austin is rapidly gaining a reputation internationally, making it one of the best locations for food lovers to explore. Food of all types and flavours can be found throughout the city; though all visitors should aim to try the Southern style of American cooking that has found a home here.
