In Italy you must be 21 years or over to drive a rental car and have held a licence for over a year.  A young driver surcharge applies to drivers aged under-25. Younger drivers may also be restricted from renting larger vehicles from most car hire companies.  A credit card is required for payment of the car rental and should be in the name of the main driver. Renting a GPS is a good idea when travelling in Italy but if you are staying in a rural area you may only be able to locate the closest village on your GPS.
