Fiumicino Airport Car Rental
The Mediterranean city of Fiumicino is located on the west coast of Italy and was originally a small fishing village. Today this relaxed and tranquil city has become something of a retreat from the hustle and bustle of the busy streets of the neighbouring, romantic city of Rome.Fiumicino Airport or Leonardo de Vinci Airport, as it is also known, is the largest airport in Italy. In 2011 a breathtakingly impressive 37.7 million passengers passed through its doors. The airport is located close to the town of Fiumicino and is only 35km southwest of Rome - Italy’s capital city. With the famously romantic city of Rome only a short distance away it is no wonder that Fiumicino Airport welcomes so many passengers every day. The airport is linked to Rome by both rail and road, with travellers having the option of catching a train into the city centre (trains run approximately every 30 minutes) or alternatively getting a taxi or renting a car. With so much to see and do in Rome and the surrounding area, hiring a car tends to work out cheaper than using taxis and other methods of public transport. The city of Rome is an architectural masterpiece and one of the world’s most photogenic locations. There is a clash of past and present within the city, creating juxtaposition of old and new that is found in few other locations. The mixture of contemporary and ancient architecture works together to create a city that has so many amazing, ancient attractions that missing them is a crime unto itself. When visiting Fiumicino exploring Rome is a real must, making a car a necessity. Also, taking the drive into Italy’s capital is far less stressful than using the transport network linking the two cities.
Car Hire at Fiumicino Airport
The area around Fiumicino Airport is truly spectacular and is best explored with the use of a vehicle. Luckily, there are a number of car rental options within two of the airport’s arrivals halls, making hiring a car incredibly simple and extremely convenient. Car rental companies operating within the airport include well known and reliable companies, both local and international. The wide range of companies operating within the airport gives you the chance to compare rental companies and their vehicles before selecting the ideal car, minibus or van to suit your specific requirements. The wide range of companies also means that car rental prices are incredibly competitive, with firms often having deals on certain vehicles. This competitiveness offers passengers with even the smallest budgets to rent a car while sticking to their chosen price range. Large fleets are a characteristic of many of the car rental companies that operate at Fiumicino Airport, ensuring that it doesn’t matter if you require a sporty engine or extra luggage space, there is sure to be something available. Although each company’s fleet varies slightly in terms of car models, each tends to have similar classes of vehicles, from family friendly run-arounds to large and luxurious 4x4s. Most companies also offer renters with the option of added extras ranging from car seats to snow tyres, however these tend to come at an additional cost. During the busy months there are some great deals to be had so be sure to have a good look around before committing to a rental contract. The opening hours of each company vary although there are a number that stay open for 24 hours. If you are planning to book a late flight then these particular renters can be a great option. Travellers are advised to book their rental vehicle before their arrival; this is due to companies quickly running out of cars during peak times. The easiest way to pre-book a vehicle is online as booking online allows travellers to compare companies and vehicles quickly, efficiently finding the best deals and cheapest rates. Also, remember that driving in a foreign country can be very different to your native land so be sure to check local rules of the road.
Fiumicino Airport Guide
Fiumicino Airport is one of Europe’s busiest airports and has more than 90 airlines regularly operating flights to and from it. These airlines include a number of budget carriers alongside more distinguished flag carriers. Since its opening in 1961, Fiumicino Airport has enjoyed extensive development to cater for its consistently increasing passenger traffic. Originally the airport operated using only two runways, however, with the high number of passengers the airport’s officials were forced to expand it into what is now a major four runway hub. Inside the plush terminals are a wealth of facilities and amenities for you to enjoy, including a range of bank services such as ATMs, currency exchange offices and post offices. The airport also has a business area called the Atahotel Executive Centre, providing those who are on business specifically with Wi-Fi, photocopiers and fax machines. The Tourist Information Office located within the airport provides travellers with information regarding local events and attractions with trained members of staff who are happy to answer any questions about the local area. This is a great place to ask a few questions about the foreign road signs and other little things that may make a huge difference. Before that, though, you may want to have a good look around the airport’s huge range of duty free shops. These are located primarily in station C, where you will also find non-duty free shops such as Roma Travel Shop, Venchi and Tendenze. After shopping be sure to head over to Station A to have a bite to eat at the cafes and restaurants that include a McDonalds, Bar Tazza and Harry’s Bar. A smaller number of eateries can be found at station’s B and C.
