Important things to note

Many of the streets in the centre of the city are entirely pedestrianized meaning that they are completely inaccessible by car. Likewise, the seafront has also been pedestrianized so it is advised to park on the outskirts and walk to the area of interest.
Unlike some of the other areas of the country, Volos is largely flat and should be relatively easy to travel in. The roads are also reasonable, as would be expected in a major city.
Many of the locals travel either by bicycle or foot, meaning drivers should stay aware of pedestrians and cyclists at all times.

Highlights & Hotspots

The vast majority of hotspots in the city are archaeological sites that offer a glimpse into the ancient life of Greece. The Archaeological site of Ancient Dimini is an entire Neolithic village which has been excavated with some incredibly interesting sites.
Likewise, the site of Ancient Sesklo is a large dwelling area and, while the site may hold fewer remains, the views are stunning and offer a real insight into the past and daily lives of those who lived in the areas.
The best beaches of the area are based in the southern part of the area for those looking for somewhere close, but for those who are willing to travel, the locals favourite beaches are around 20 miles out of town.
The city centre has a fantastic range of modern and historical, with many establishments that could leave some travellers surprised. The bars and restaurants are very cosmopolitan with a thriving nightlife taking over the city once the sun goes down.

Airport Information

Volos Airport is based in Nea Anchialos which is approximately 25km south of the city centre. A number of international flights connect across Europe, with peak season seeing an increased number of flights.
Travel between the city and the airport is reasonably quick, though peak summer months can experience some traffic which should be taken into account when planning travel times.
