Introduction

Located in North Lincolnshire, Humberside is the name formerly given to the East Riding of Yorkshire and North and North East Lincolnshire. Today, it’s an airport between Grimsby and Scunthorpe and close to the seaside resort of Cleethorpes. With so much to see and do in the surrounding towns, particularly for families, Humberside Airport is a good base for exploring North Lincs.
The traditional fishing port of Grimsby is a great place to spend time with the family and learn the heritage of the area. The neighbouring town of Cleethorpes is an excellent seaside resort, home to many fun attractions for families with young children. The city of Lincoln is only a 30-minute drive away and is home to an array of historical buildings and museums.

Highlights & Hotspots

If you pay a visit to Grimsby, make sure you leave a free afternoon to spend at The National Fishing Heritage Centre. This child-friendly museum gives insight into the town’s fishing industry and heritage.
The neighbouring seaside town of Cleethorpes is a great place for the family to spend the day. Pleasure Island has numerous rides and attractions suitable for adults and kids of all ages. There are also all kinds of shows and events taking place in the park, particularly over the summer months.
The nearby town of Scunthorpe is home to the fantastic Pink Pig Farm, which is the perfect place for foodies and families to spend an afternoon. There’s an excellent Farm Park, which kids will love and a fantastic café serving local produce as well as farm shop.
History buffs should make a trip to the cathedral city of Lincoln, which is only a 45-minute drive from Humberside. Home to the impressive Gothic Cathedral, there’s plenty to discover in this fascinating historical city, such as the Lincoln Castle and the Victorian Prison museum.

Important things to note

Be aware that Lincolnshire has no motorways other than the M180, so journey time might take longer than expected.
When driving to Lincoln, the city is made up of a network of narrow roads, pedestrianized areas and one-way street – so take care to plan your journey beforehand.
The main connecting road in Lincoln is the A46. The M180 (which later becomes the A180) connects Grimsby with the main routes to the Midlands.

Airport Information

Humberside Airport is located approximately 12 miles west of Grimsby and about 15 miles east of Scunthorpe. The airport serves the surrounding area offering flights to various destinations throughout Europe.
The airport is accessible via the A18 from Grimsby, via the M180 from Scunthorpe and via the A15 from Lincoln city centre. It’s also close to the Humber Bridge.
