Situated in the centre of Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, Maroochydore is a major business hub and is home to many shops and businesses. Along with Mooloolaba, Alexandra Headland and Cotton Tree, it forms what is known as the Maroochy region, concentrated around the mouth of the Maroochy River. Maroochydore is well complimented by nearby Mooloolaba, which is just six minutes’ drive away and offers visitors an abundance of restaurants and independent retailers. During Australia’s summer, the area is incredibly popular with tourists who flock in their droves to surf the waves or simply relax on the sun kissed beaches.
A hatchback is perfect for driving in and around Maroochydore, as it is great for driving round the city, but also powerful enough to negotiate the motorways roads when travelling further afield.

Important things to note
Picnic and walking areas are targeted heavily by thieves, so ensure your belongings are kept out of sight and doors locked.
Ensure you take a map and sat/nav, as if you plan to drive further afield than just the beaches, distances can be quite lengthy.
The Sunshine Motorway is the best possible route to take if exploring other parts of the Sunshine Coast, although it does attract large volumes of traffic in summer.

Due to its location along the mouth of the Maroochy River, Maroochydore Beach offers a decent variety of water currents to keep surfers of all levels entertained. It is also incredibly well kept and family friendly, with excellent facilities, including changing room, parks and a BBQ area.
Keep the family entertained for a few hours at Top Shots Fun Park, where they can enjoy anything from crazy golf, rock climbing, a water park and even an extreme trampoline. Entry is free, simply pay individually for the activities you choose to partake in.
Sunshine Plaza is a shopping mall designed with families in mind. As well as a large selection of popular retailers, they also have a cinema, restaurants and children’s entertainment from the likes of Sesame Street and Peppa Pig on a regular basis.
India Today is an award winning restaurant offering mouth-watering food in a warm, authentic environment, with the added bonus that you can bring your own wine to enjoy. For a special occasion, you may want to splash out at Arnica’s Waterfront Restaurant, where the world renowned chefs deliver gourmet food, complimented by amazing sea views. Booking is essential.
Maroochydore is serviced by Sunshine Coast Airport, which is also a gateway to other holiday destinations such as Mooloolaba, Caloundra and Noosa. It mainly caters for domestic flights, although a few international destinations are served too.
It is a convenient 11-minute drive to Maroochydore from Sunshine Coast Airport, which is just north of the Maroochy River near Mudjimba.
