Pisa is probably most famous for its leaning tower but there is much more to see in this area of Italy.  The area that surrounds the cathedral and tower is surprisingly picturesque, meaning a simple visit to the tower may actually take up several hours of your time. Other places of interest in the area include the Arno River, a university and a number of interesting museums.  Renting a car in Pisa gives you the option to explore not just this city but also the many pretty towns in this area of Italy including Siena and Lucca.

Car Hire at Pisa Airport

Major and local car rental suppliers are represented at Pisa International Airport.  Desks are located in the arrivals area.

Advice for Renting a Car in Pisa

In Pisa, cars drive on the right hand side of the road.  Those who are not used to driving on this side of the road are advised to familiarise themselves with the layout of their rental vehicle.    The steering wheel will be on the left, while the gearstick and handbrake will be on the right hand side.
Before you pick up your rental car at the desk, you should ensure that you have all relevant documentation including your booking confirmation email, your credit card, your driver’s licence and any other identification requested by your rental car provider.

Pisa Airport Guide

Pisa airport is located just 2km from the centre of Pisa. Although quite small, Pisa airport offers a good range of facilities including a bank and currency exchange desk, telephones and wi-fi access in all areas of the terminal. There is a bar and café on the ground floor.  On the first floor there are three restaurants, one is self-service and there is also a bar. The airport’s shopping area, La Corte is home to over 20 shops and these can be accessed from both floors.  Passengers leaving the EU can take advantage of duty free prices in the duty-free shop in departures.  A tax refund facility is available here. Meanwhile, those with long flight connections can make use of the left luggage service which is available at the information office. Pisa International airport has disabled toilets and lifts and there are also ramps inside and outside the terminal.  Reserved parking is available in the short-term and multi-story car parks.  Passengers with disabilities should inform their airline of special requirements before travelling. There are short and long-term car parks located in Pisa Airport with space to accommodate 1200 vehicles.  Short-term parking is available just outside the departures area in car park P3 and outside Arrivals in P8.  Long-term parking is available in the multi-storey car park, opposite the train station on the departures side and in the neighbouring P1 car park.  There is a long-term P4 parking area located close to the petrol station but this is only open seasonally. Other facilities at Pisa airport include a first aid station and a surgery.  There is also a children’s play area, a hairdresser, a chapel, and a pharmacy.

Driving to Pisa Airport

Pisa International airport can be reached via Pisa, Genoa, Leghorn and Florence via the A12 motorway and the Livorno-Pisa-Florence dual carriageway.
