Important things to note

It’s compulsory to drive with a warning triangle and reflective vest that’s in easy reach from within the vehicle at all times, in case of an accident.
Parking in and around the city might be problematic – particularly during peak holiday season, however most areas of interest are within walking distance.
It’s recommended to drive cautiously as local drivers are known to change lanes or make turns without signalling and often tailgate other vehicles.

For an afternoon of culture, head to the Museu de Portimão. This modern museum is a great way to discover the city’s history, paying particular reference to it marina and fishing industry. The building was formally a fish cannery and in one area of the museum you can see the old production line.
If you’re travelling with young children then a trip to the Splash and Slide waterpark can be a great day out for all the family. With slides, chutes and splash pools for adults and kids of all ages, there’s something here for everyone.
If you fancy a day on the beach with the kids, or even just relaxing and soaking up the sun, then one of the Algarve’s best beaches is only a stone’s throw away. A short walk from the city centre is the popular beach resort town of Praia da Rocha which is home to long stretches of gorgeous beaches.
Portimão is surrounding by rolling countryside, so if you like to be a little more active on holiday then there are plenty of outdoorsy opportunities to choose from including mountain biking, hiking and horse riding.

The nearest airport to Portim?£o is Faro International Airport, which is located approximately 40 miles away in an easterly direction. The airport is easily accessible from the city centre by following the A22 highway.
As the only airport serving Portugal’s Algarve coast, Faro airport can get very busy during peak season.
