Car Hire Vilamoura

Although not strictly a town, Vilamoura is one of the most popular destinations with visitors to the Algarve region in southern Portugal. Vliamoura is Europe’s largest luxury tourist complex, lying near the towns of Loule and Quarteira, centred on a marina where hundreds of ships, yachts and boats can dock at leisure, but there’s plenty on offer besides. Vilamoura has a number of luxury hotels and holiday homes, while there are numerous activities which visitors can participate in, whether they want to learn about the area’s history, head to the beach or do something a little more adventurous. Vilamoura has a vibrant nightlife, too, as there are plenty of nightclubs, bars and casinos open until the small hours.

Ideal car

As is the case elsewhere in the Algarve, a small family car will be sufficient for driving along the motorways, the rural routes and everything in between.

Important things to note

Although the roads here are in excellent condition, Vilamoura is just over a mile away from the nearest national route, the N125.
Traffic coming in and out of the complex gets heavier in summer, when most people come to visit. Be prepared to wait if visiting between April and September.
Parking in Vilamoura is surprisingly easy. Given that it was built to accommodate thousands of visitors, finding a space isn’t too problematic.

Highlights & Hotspots

Anyone with an interest in the history of this area should consider visiting the Roman Ruins and Museum of Cerro da Vila. In the centre of Vilamoura, the ruins are of a bathing complex, where some remarkable mosaics remain.
No trip to Vilamoura should go without a visit to its iconic marina. At the marina, you could go for a bite to eat, while away the wee hours of the afternoon watching the boats come in and go out from one of the bars or visit some of the nearby sporting facilities.
Golf fans have plenty of reason to visit Vilamoura. The complex has six golf courses to its name, each of them presenting a different challenge for players of all ages and abilities. Occasionally, they play host to tournaments for players from the local area as well as further afield.
Vilamoura is close to the beach, which provides ample opportunities to go sunbathing, swimming or, if you’re feeling a little more adventurous, deep-sea fishing. Lessons are available, while you can also go on a boat trip to see the famous caves along the coast.

Airport Information

The nearest airport is Faro International Airport, which is six miles southeast of the complex. It has one terminal building for passengers, while flights go to and from destinations throughout Europe, mainly during the summer months.
The airport can be reached via the N125 road, which goes to the N125-10 link road connecting the airport with the main road network to and from Faro and other major towns and cities.
