While road works are currently taking place on a mass scale, the majority of roads are covered in very deep and damaging potholes. Should drivers be travelling in the rain, attempt to avoid puddles; as they can often be deep enough to rip a tire from a car. However, the motorways are in excellent condition.

Despite strict laws for driving, the culture of local drivers can be haphazard. Overtaking on sharp bends is a common problem, despite the no-overtaking signs on the roads.
When is the best time to drive?
Rush hour poses no serious problem, though it is advised that drivers avoid travelling at night or in heavy rain due to the state of roads and reduced visibility.
What are the driving laws?
There is a zero-tolerance policy in regards to drink driving, meaning drivers should have drunk no alcohol prior to driving. Headlights are required to be turned on at all times when driving. All foreign visitors to Slovenia must register with the police within three days of arrival.
Due to the harsh and often extreme conditions in winter, by law all cars must be fitted with specialist winter equipment from 15th November until the 15th March, even if there is no snow.
The toll roads accept payment in the form of: credit cards, Euros or Kunas; making them very convenient for those travelling around Europe.
A vignette must be displayed on any vehicle that wishes to travel using the Slovenian motorways and Ljubljana ring road.
