Important things to note

Seatbelts are compulsory in both the front and rear seats of the vehicle.
If caught in heavy traffic on a dual carriageway where traffic is stalled in your lane, the law states you must switch on your four-way hazard lights to warn vehicles behind you.
On many roads you will not be able to make a left turn. It is against the law to stop in the road and wait to turn left where there is a solid white line in the road. It is customary to pull off on a slip road to the right to make the turn.
On highways, look out for a “cambio de sentido” where you can change direction.
