Car Hire Dundee

Dundee is Scotland’s fourth largest city and is home to some of the country’s friendliest locals, who generally welcome strangers with open arms. The D.C Thomson publishing company, famous for its Beano and the now defunct Dandy comics reside here, with a bronze statue of Desperate Dan standing proudly in the City Square as a tribute. Geographically well located, Dundonians have some cultural gems on their doorstep as well as the pleasant seaside town of Broughty Ferry to enjoy. Whether you’re a keen historian or not, you can’t help but appreciate the beautiful cathedrals and castles, many dating back to the 15th and 16th century.

Ideal car

A hatchback is the best option for Dundee. Small and nippy enough to navigate around the town, it also has enough power to tackle the motorways and hills you may encounter whilst sightseeing.

The port area of Dundee tends to be busiest on weekday mornings.

Highlights & Hotspots

One of the city’s best museums is the ever popular Verdant Works. Acquired by the Dundee Heritage trust in the early 90s, this former jute mill has been restored and offers a fascinating look into textile industry and the people it employed. At its peak, the industry employed 50,000 people in Dundee, which was half of the city’s population.
For breath taking, panoramic views of Dundee and another slice of local history, head up to the Dundee Law. A stone monument marks the spot of an extinct volcano which was formed over 400 million years ago.
Whether you have older kids or are simply a big kid yourself, you will love Battlefield Live. Touted as Scotland’s best indoor combat game, Battlefield combines laser quest with live action zombies and other interactive elements, to make for an adrenalin fuelled day.
For some authentic Spanish tapas in a modest and unassuming environment, head along to The Tapas Bar in the sea side town of Broughty Ferry. The name may not be the most imaginative, but the warm welcome and food served up in this gem of a place more than make up for it.

Airport Information

Dundee Airport is relatively small and operates flights to and from limited destinations, the most common being London. The nearest international airport is Edinburgh, which is 60 miles away from the centre of Dundee.
You should try and stick to the motorways when going there, if you can, as it would make your journey far simpler.
