Car Hire Phoenix

Phoenix is the state capital of Arizona and one of the largest cities in the entire United States. It serves as a cultural, administrative and commercial hub for the Southwest of the country. Despite being in the middle of the Sonoran Desert, it has become a major metropolis where people can go shopping, visit cultural sites and generally have a good time. Among other things, Phoenix is famous for its blisteringly hot summers. When visiting, it’s important to bring some sunscreen and shades with you! Phoenix is also famous for its large Hispanic community, who have had a tremendous impact on the city’s architecture, culture and even the local dialect, where Spanish and English intertwine.

The roads in Phoenix are in excellent condition, while the grid road system makes it ideal for a family saloon or hatchback to get around, even in a heavy traffic jam.

Important things to note

The car is king in Phoenix and as a result, traffic is a problem at times. If you can help it, avoid driving on early weekday mornings.
As a rapidly growing city, roadworks are still ongoing in Phoenix, especially on the main highways into and out of the centre.
To be on the safe side, you shouldn’t drink before driving. In neighbouring Scottsdale and Tempe, drink-driving laws are heavily enforced.

Highlights & Hotspots

Phoenix is a big sporting city. Baseball fans can go watch the Arizona Diamondbacks, basketball lovers could watch the Phoenix Suns and anyone with an interest in American football could give seeing an Arizona Cardinals match a try.
The Arizona Science Center is home to many exhibits dedicated to science and technology, but the jewel in its crown is its IMAX theatre. Every season, there are new exhibitions which cannot be found anywhere else in the States.
The Desert Botanical Garden is the best place in the city to see how plant life manages to flourish in the desert. A mix of native and global plants sit side by side here, while it’s a relative beacon of tranquillity in an otherwise bustling city.
To get out and see the Sonoran Desert, Desert Storm Hummer Tours allow you to explore the dunes surrounding the Phoenix Area. As well as tours during the day, if you’re feeling adventurous, you can go on tour at night!

Airport Information

Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport is the main airport serving the city. One of the world’s busiest airports, it has three passenger terminals (2, 3 and 4), serves over 40 million passengers and has flights to and from all over North America as well as London-Heathrow.
The airport, three miles southeast of downtown Phoenix, is accessible from the 202 highway, which takes you west to the 10 highway. Heading north, you’re going towards downtown Phoenix.
