Seattle is known third worst city in the US for traffic, beaten only by New York City and Los Angeles. Expect to be crawling along the highways when entering the city, particularly during rush hour periods
For those who aren’t familiar with the city, street navigation can be difficult. With that in mind, using a satnav is highly recommended.
Most east-west streets end in ‘Avenue’, while north-south streets typically end in ‘Street’. There are exceptions away from the inner city though.

The globally renowned Pike Place Market is undoubtedly the largest tourist area in Seattle. Selling a huge array of goods, from farm fresh produce to handmade arts and crafts, this bustling market is a must-visit attraction for first time and returning visitors alike. Head down during the weekend to avoid the crowds and be sure to stop off at the original Starbucks café.
If you fancy getting active whilst visiting Seattle, hire a bike and explore the city at your leisure. Alternatively, take part in a two hour cycle tour led by a knowledgeable and experienced guide to ensure that you cover all the city’s best attractions. Water-based activities such as kayaking, canoeing and rowing are also popular.
For the shopaholics amongst you, Seattle is awash with shopping malls, which are easily accessible from the city centre. The Westfield Southcenter Shopping Mall is one of the largest in the area and houses all the big name brands.
Keep the children entertained for the afternoon by paying a visit to the Seattle Aquariam. There are a whole host of underwater creatures to see, including seals, octopuses and an array of colourful fish. There’s also the opportunity to touch the sea life if you’re feeling brave.

Airport Information

Nicknamed Sea-Tac, the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport is the city’s principal airport, offering a whole host of domestic and international flights.
Situated 25 minutes away from the centre of Seattle by car, it is located alongside International Boulevard, which takes you north towards Downtown Seattle and south towards Tacoma.
