Zakynthos Airport is the main gateway to the island of Zakynthos. The island is the most southern of the Ionian Islands and is characterised by its three distinct zones, the unspoilt, mountainous northwest, the fertile central plain and the eastern and southern resort-filled coasts. The biggest resort on the island is Laganas which is famous for its vibrant nightlife. Meanwhile, smaller quieter resorts are to be found north and south of the capital. Renting a car in Zakynthos not only gives you easy access to your resort but also allows you to explore the island’s less visited beaches and villages.
Both major and international car rental brands have representatives at Zakynthos Airport. Rental car desks are situated in the arrivals area of the airport.
In Greece, cars drive on the right hand side of the road. If you do not usually drive on the right hand side of the road, it is a good idea to take your car for a practice drive around the car park before exiting onto the main road. Remember also that the steering wheel will be located on the left-hand side of the car, while the handbrake and gearstick will be on the right.
When you arrive in Zakynthos Airport, be sure to have all essential documents ready to present to the agent on the desk including your booking confirmation voucher, your credit card, your driver’s licence and any other forms of identification outlined in the terms and conditions of your rental.
Zakynthos Airport is situated 6km to the south of Zakynthos town and 1km from Laganas. Summer holidaymakers should note that during the busy summer season, the airport can become quite crowded so it is always wise to allow extra time for your journey. The airport offers a good range of facilities including bars, cafés and fast food outlets. Post offices are situated in the departures areas of Terminals 1 and 2 and public telephones can be found throughout the terminals. Wi-fi is available to passengers for a fee, unless they are located in the VIP area. There are spaces for around 1200 cars in the car parks situated outside of the terminals.
If driving from the city centre, follow Aspendos Boulevard and merge onto the D400 eastbound. From here, follow signs to Antalya Havalimani Airport. The journey takes around 20 minutes.
