Important things to note

As the public transport throughout Toronto is generally unreliable, the car is the most used form of transport in the city. Given the scale and population, this means that traffic is common every day. Rush hour takes place every day at 6.30am-10am and 3pm-8pm though traffic in general is always heavy.
Highway 401 is the world’s largest highway with nine lanes each way and is the best route to use to bypass Downtown for a faster journey. However, in peak times even this can experience some levels of slow moving traffic.
The weather conditions, especially in the winter months, can be incredibly unpredictable. Snow is very likely and can reach unpassable levels, meaning driving should be avoided should the local weather report predict snow.

Highlights & Hotspots

Art lovers are sure to find a huge number of exhibitions of various styles around the city, but the Art Gallery of Ontario showcases the definitive collection. As the largest gallery in Canada, it recently enjoyed a redesign by acclaimed architect Frank Gehry. It houses the world’s largest collection of Henry Moore, while a huge volume of work from Canada and Europe can also be found here.
For families visiting the city, a trip to Black Creek Pioneer Village is a must as it will delight children and adults of all ages. A living historic site in northern Toronto, it consists of over 40 19th century buildings and is alive with actors portraying the inhabitants of old Toronto.
Whether you enjoy it in the sun of summer or the chill of winter, there are a number of beautiful beaches waiting to be explored. The beaches are quiet at all times of year and provide a place of seclusion, peace and quiet for those looking to escape the hectic city.
Theatre is huge in Toronto with world-class performances of every genre and style. Avant-garde and experimental theatre blends with the traditional to provide a great variety of entertainment to enjoy for all tastes and price ranges.
