Important things to note
Be aware that the standard of driving throughout South Africa varies greatly, so it’s generally recommended to exercise caution wherever possible.
Road conditions are generally good but can be of poor quality in more rural areas. Some roads may be poorly maintained and heavily potholed.
Do not leave valuables on the seat both when driving and when the vehicle is parked as crime rates are high and thieves are known to operate at traffic junctions.

One of the city’s most popular attractions is the Apartheid Museum. This fantastic museum uses a range of exhibits, film and audio to offer insight into the rise and fall of apartheid in South Africa. The 22 exhibits illustrate the events, taking visitors on a dramatic journey.
There are plenty of exciting attractions for families such as the theme parks and water parks located in and around the city. Gold Reef City is an excellent theme park with plenty of rides for kids of all ages.
For those that want to discover the wildlife here, the city’s Lion Park is an excellent way to see the animals up close. In the park, you’ll have the opportunity to meet the lion cubs and pet them as well as feed the giraffes and visits the park’s other inhabitants such as antelopes and zebras.
The city is home to a thriving arts scene and art lovers should certainly pay a visit to Johannesburg Art Gallery. The ever-changing exhibitions here are consistently impressive and include collections by 17th and 18th century European and South African artists.
Airport Information
O. R. Tambo International Airport is located approximately 14 miles east of the centre of Johannesburg and is accessible via the R24 and R21 highways.
The airport is South Africa’s largest and busiest, meaning that there may be the odd problem with trying to find a convenient parking space. However, its size means that queues for boarding flights are less problematic than in other major airports.
