Highlights & Hotspots

Southend Sea Front is open all year round where people flock eager to enjoy endless amounts of guilty pleasures. Penny machines, electronic punch bags and other noisy and garish gambling machines fill the amusement arcades that line the beachfront. The jewel in the Southend-On-Sea crown is undoubtedly the pier, which at 2158 metres long is the world’s longest by quite a distance.
Adventure Island is perched right on the sea front, meaning if you have kids, it’s essential if you want to avoid getting into their bad books. The park is great for adults too and has some great thrill rides as well as all the kiddy classics you’d expect at a fairground.
If you want to explore the ocean without getting cold or wet, take a trip to Sea Life Adventure, located on the Eastern Esplanade. Although not the largest of aquariums, there are plenty of turtles, tropical fish and other sea life to keep younger children entertained for an afternoon.
Proclaiming to sell the best burgers in Essex, Lunch in a Bag serves up fantastic American food; they also give American sized portions too, so you won’t go hungry. With possibly the biggest burger menu you’ll find in the UK, as well as hot dogs and pulled pork, it’s well worth a look. Fish and chip shops are everywhere in Southend, one of the oldest and best is Oldham’s.
