Introduction

Orlando is home to Walt Disney World, a sprawling theme park and holiday destination which covers several square miles just to the southeast of the city of Orlando. First built back in 1971, it has expanded significantly over the years to cope with demand, comprising of a plethora of hotels, parks, amusement rides and restaurants. The Floridian city is also home to other major attractions such as SeaWorld and the Universal Studios complex, while it’s also a great place to go shopping and enjoy a meal with the family, whatever type of cuisine you’re into.

Important things to note

The I-4 Interstate is more or less the best and easiest route to take when heading to Walt Disney World. You might need to vouch for traffic though.
In the Disney World resort, most of the road signs are purple and have directional signs in the shape of black Mickey Mouse ears, but are pretty easy to read.
There is an on-site car care centre should you run into trouble while driving, while the golf courses can only be accessed by car.

Highlights & Hotspots

The best place for shopping is Disney’s Boardwalk, which is close to the Downtown Disney part of Disney World. Here, you’re sure to find plenty of exclusive boutiques and souvenir shops where you can buy everything from electronics to high fashion and jewellery for your next big night out.
For thrill-a-minute rides, the best theme park is the Magic Kingdom. As the oldest part of the resort, it has rides that will please visitors of all ages while the sense of whimsy that comes with many of the rides will keep everyone entertained for hour after hour.
SeaWorld Adventure Park is a massive marine park which has rides, aquariums, pools for whales and dolphins and more besides. Unlike Disney World, it is a pretty laid-back place to spend a morning or afternoon.
The Universal Orlando Resort is a good alternative to Disney World. It has the famous Universal Studios where you can see TV shows and films being shot, while there are rides to enjoy, not to mention a nightclub and restaurant complex for the adults.

Airport Information

Orlando International Airport is the busiest in the state and one of the largest. It is located to the southeast of downtown Orlando, making it an easy commute for visitors staying downtown or in the city centre.
